「マジック種明かし番組」問題：ウォルター・ブラニー師の意見

以下の内容は、World Alliance of Magicians (WAM) 名誉会長のウォルター・ブラニー師が小谷純司氏を通して、日本のすべてのマジシャンに宛てたメッセージです。

緒川氏がＴＶ番組で行った「サムタイ」や「クラシックフォース」の暴露について、すべてのマジシャンを傷つける背信行為であると断言しています。この行為は、マジック界の裏切者・ヴァレンチノ（マスクマジシャン）と同じことであるとも指摘しています。この意見には、WAM会長のアッブ・ディクソン師も全面同意していますので、これはWAMの公式見解であると考えられます。

小谷純司氏と日本のすべてのマジシャンへ

緒川氏が日本の全国放送のＴＶ番組でクラシックフォースを暴露したというビデオを見ました。私が驚いたのは彼がそのフォースを非常にうまくやっていて、観客を楽しませていたようだったのに、その後でやりかたを暴露したことでした。

長年、専業のプロマジシャンとしてやってきた者として、私にはこの行為はまったく理解できません。その暴露の目的は何だったのでしょう？ヴァレンチノと同じくその行為によってお金を得ることではないかと私は思います。もちろん、この行為はすべてのマジシャンを傷つけます。一般の人たちは「カードのフォース」が何のことなのかなど、知りません。うまく行われれば、一般の人たちはそんなものが存在することを知ることは決してないのです。クラシックフォースをカードマジックに使うことは、それを奇跡にする一助となり、すべての人を大いに楽しませます。一般の人たちはそんな秘密など知りたくありません。彼らはだまされたいのです。彼らはマジックを楽しみたいのです。すべてのマジシャンが基本ルールを知っています。それは、「keep the secret...don't expose magic」（秘密を守りなさい、マジックを暴露してはいけません）です。

この暴露は「レクチャー」ではありません。「啓蒙」でもありません。基本的な秘密やマジックの原理を全国放送のテレビで一般の人たちに露出していれば、そんなことはないのです。

もしマジシャンが人々の興味をマジックに対して向かわせたいなら、マジシャンは基本的なビギナーネタの「簡単にできる手品」から何なりと選んで教えるべきです。ソーダのストローの中で切って復活するヒモとか、ハンカチの中で折って復活するつまようじとか、そういうものをさせましょう。しかし、クラシックフォースや、あの有名なサムタイはいけません。どちらも経験を積み重ねたプロや、情熱を持ったアマチュアのマジシャンたちに帰するものです。

こういうのはマジック界の裏切者・ヴァレンチノがやっていることです。汚い金のために兄弟のようなマジシャンたちを背中から刺す行為です。緒川は「マジックの先生」などではありません。彼は単なる、もう一人の裏切者です。私が思うに、緒川とその師匠の柳田は日本の奇術界に対してひどい危害を与えています。ヴァレンチノが世界中でマジックに対してやっているようなことと同じです。

TO Jun Kotani and all magicians in Japan
Dear Jun:

I finished looking at the video you sent of Ogawa exposing the classic force on national TV in Japan. What amazes me is that he does the force well,appears to entertain his audience, then exposes what he does.

As a long time, full time professional magician, this makes no sense to me. What is the purpose of the exposure? I assume it is to get the money he is paid to do so, just as Valentino has done. This of course hurts all magicians. The lay public doesn't know what a "card force" is. When done well, they would never know such a thing existed. Using the "classic force" in card tricks helps make them become miracles. Everyone is highly entertained. They don't want to know the secret. They want to be fooled. They want to enjoy the magic. Every magician knows these basic rules...keep the secret...don't expose magic.

This exposure is not a "lecture". It is not "enlightenment"....not when one exposes our basic secrets and magic principles on national TV to the lay public.

If a magician wants to interest people into taking up the art of magic, let him/her teach any one of the many basic beginner's "easy-to-do magic tricks". Let him show the cut and restored string in a soda straw. Or the broken and restored toothpick in a handkerchief. But certainly not the "classic force", or the famous "thumb-tie", both staples of the seasoned professional or passionate amateur magician. This is what Valentino does, the magic traitor, stabbing his brother magicians in the back for dirty money. Ogawa is not a "teacher of magic", he is simply another traitor to the art of magic. I think Ogawa, and his mentor Yanagida, are doing a terrible disservice to the magic
world in Japan, just as Valentino is continuing to do to magic worldwide.

残念なのはテレビでの種明かしの「悪い結果について

（原文）す。どうやら彼らは間違っていたことを認めて恥をかくかもしれないことより、良い点だけを広めることにのみ興味を持っているようです。
考え思いやる」ことをしていないことのようです。私はウォルター氏の番組に関するコメントに全面的に同意します。彼らは選択した内容で一線を大きく越えてしまいましたし、「彼らの悪い判断をなかったことにする」というのは不可能です。マジックへの情熱と驚きを高める一助とするようなプレゼンテーションを行うかわりに、彼らは暴露を通じて人を落胆させることを選んだのです。

In going over the comments of Akimoto and Ogawa... it seems that they were only interested in reporting the "positive" rather than possibly disgracing themselves by admitting that they were in the wrong.

The unfortunate thing seems to be that they did not "think and consider the negative consequence" of their exposure on television. I fully agree with Walter's comments regarding what was shown and exposed.... they went far over the line with the content that they chose, and it is impossible to "take back their bad judgement." Instead of presenting things in a light that would help promote the enthusiasm and wonder of Magic, they chose to disappoint through exposure.
